OUR HISTORY

Friend & family member David Harris was in a serious car accident on July 18, 2004 that almost took his life & changed it forever. After many months & a long road, Dave is doing well. But his family endured many expenses along the way to accommodate him & his new life. The idea for this organization began as individual fundraising for Dave. As we got more into the fundraising, we soon learned our limitations without 501C3 non-profit status and that a non-profit organization has to benefit many people, not just one person. In January of 2005, Dave’s sister Christie & cousin Karen partnered with the National Heritage Foundation to form From One Family To Another (FOFTA). The goal was to continue to assist Dave & set aside a small portion of the proceeds for other paralyzed individuals ages 18-30 in Howard & Carroll Counties, Maryland. They soon decided they wanted more control over the funds & saw a need to lend support & resource information to those in similar situations. They also thought about what happens when Dave is over 30 or if they wanted to help someone else out side of those counties. While FOFTA may be financially limited at first with how much we can help, we wanted to raise awareness, help people how we can, & especially provide a first place guidance and support system for newly injured & their families. We are armed with the knowledge & learned most the hard way & wanted to make a devastating situation easier for others. Therefore, In March of 2005, From One Family To Another, Inc. was started with a broader goal: To help ALL paralyzed individuals in Maryland resulting from spinal cord injuries, & to raise awareness. We are an official 501C3 non-profit, tax-deductible organization in the state of Maryland. All donations made to FOFTA are tax deductible. If you have made a donation to us prior to February 17, 2006, your donation will retroactively be considered tax-exempt for the 2005 tax year. Please contact us if you need further information to complete your tax returns.
